We are excited to announce that the Student Research Foundation will help fund 1,000 classroom projects through DonorsChoose.org in calendar year 2019. By supporting DonorsChoose.org, we look forward to helping to deliver needed learning materials and program support to thousands of students in public schools throughout America.
About DonorsChoose.org
In 2000 Charles Best, a teacher at a public high school in the Bronx, NY, needed to give his students copies of Little House on the Prairie. He was making photocopies of the one copy of the book that his budget could afford and distributing them to his students. He began to think about all the money that he and his fellow teachers needed for books, art supplies and other classroom materials. So he launched a fledgling version of DonorsChoose.org, a website where concerned members of the public could identify and donate to classroom projects they wanted to support. He and his teaching colleagues posted 11 requests for funding. People responded by making contributions and the concept spread quickly. Today, DonorsChoose.org has succeeded in fulfilling funding requests from more than 600,000 teachers across America.
