Brain Dissection Supplies Are Helping Mr. Kincaid’s Students Become Better Scientists
Students can only learn so much about brain anatomy by looking at books or poking around online. If they want to learn about how complex brains are and how they work, there comes a time when they have to dissect actual brains.
That explains why Mr. Kincaid, a science teacher at the all-boys magnet high, Young Men’s Leadership Academy in Fort Worth, Texas, created a project on DonorsChoose.org that asked for funding to buy sheep brains for his students to dissect. Donors, including the Student Research Foundation, stepped up and contributed $197.56 to the project. And now, Mr. Kincaid’s grateful students are eagerly dissecting sheep brains and learning about brain anatomy in ways they never had before.
Thanks from Mr. Kincaid
Dear Student Research Foundation,
Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom brain dissections. My students say it was one of the most interesting and exciting things they have done in their entire education. My students gained a deep and memorable understanding of the nervous system and how it functions. They can’t wait to see what we dissect next. Students from all over the campus came in just to see the brains, and it really inspired them to study further. Your gift to our classroom created a memorable learning opportunity that will stay with my students for the rest of their lives. I cannot thank you enough and we appreciate all of your support.
With gratitude,
Mr. Kincaid
Thoughts About Careers
We don’t know how many of these young men will go on to become brain surgeons or enter healthcare or science-related fields but we were happy to have played a part in bringing this opportunity to Mr. Kincaid’s students and high school. We invite all students to explore their career options by participating in our career and college studies. Students who complete the free career test for high school students will receive information on college and career opportunities which match their interests.
We look forward to writing about the success of more DonorsChoose.org teacher projects here on the Student Research Foundation blog. Stay tuned!
